Executive Warns Against Chinese-Made GLP-1 Drugs, Citing Purity and Safety Risks

MIAMI — With demand for weight-loss and metabolic treatments continuing to soar, a senior executive at an American peptide manufacturer is urging doctors and clinics to avoid Chinese-made GLP-1 products, saying only domestically produced versions can reliably deliver the high purity standards required for safe clinical use.
Lucas Torres, Director of Expansion at Alpha Biologix, based in Miami, issued a pointed warning in a recent interview, describing an “invasion” of Chinese peptides and GLP-1 agonists into the American market.
“We are seeing an invasion of Chinese peptides and GLP-1s,” Mr. Torres said. “Many are sold at very attractive prices, but most do not meet minimum quality standards. At Alpha Biologix we want to be very clear: do not buy Chinese products. Only peptides manufactured in the United States can deliver the real 99 percent purity that healthcare professionals need for safe, predictable results.”
Mr. Torres detailed several concerns regarding Chinese-manufactured compounds.
“The problem goes far beyond price,” he said. “We have seen batches with purity below 85 percent, bacterial contaminants, chemical impurities and serious stability issues. A Chinese GLP-1 may look the same on the label, but at the molecular level it is very different. This directly compromises both effectiveness and patient safety.”
He contrasted this with American manufacturing standards.
“When a product is manufactured in the USA, we can guarantee complete traceability from synthesis to final packaging,” Mr. Torres said. “At Alpha Biologix we consistently achieve 99 percent purity or higher, verified by independent laboratories. That is what truly makes the difference in clinical outcomes.”
